What is Supervision?

Supervision is an opportunity for professionals working in people facing roles to reflect on their practice. The role of the supervisor is to provide critical questioning and thinking for the supervisee to better understand themselves and the matters that impact their work.

My approach to supervision is one that promotes Hauora (total wellbeing) and a recognition that supervisees bring their whole selves to what they do.

The model that I base my work on is mana enhancing and, through careful questioning and reflection, empowers the supervisee to make meaning of their situation.

Who is Supervision for?

Supervision is for anyone working in people-facing roles that would like the opportunity to critically think and reflect upon practice. Sometimes people are hesitant to engage in supervision due to the assumption that supervision leans more towards counselling the individual, this is not the case. The intent of supervision is to provide robust mentorship and perspective on what informs ones values, therefore, creating a greater awareness of ones self and the ways they practice.

Supervision is a great opportunity for any working professional who seek to enhance the work that they do for the people they serve; If you would like to to better understand your communities then supervision is for you.

Benefits of Supervision

1. A mana-enhancing process

The supervision experience should empower the supervisee to be confident and competent in their practice.

2. An intentional process

Supervision is informed by research and is recognised by the Health and Social Sector as paramount to best practice.

3. A collaborative process and a voluntary commitment

Supervision requires both the supervisor and supervisee to work together to find solutions to workplace matters. Supervisees should understand the value of regular, protected time for reflection and are active participants in the process.

“Jasmine helped access and unpack what I know in a way that helps me create my own strategies. Her facilitation and support empower me in a way that works for me. In addition to the questions she asks, she comments on her observations on my growth and gives the encouragement required in areas I feel like I require support in.”
